Douglas Beck, Au.D. Receives R.S. McCrea Medal

Douglas Beck, Au.D., Director of Professional Relations for Oticon, Inc., has been awarded the R.S. McCrea Medal 2012 by the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.  Beck is honored for his presentation of two lectures in pediatrics, Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorders and Amplification and Reflections on Auditory Processing Disorder, at the 2012 British Audiology Association Northern Ireland meeting. Beck is the only person to have received the R.S. McCrea Medal on two occasions. Glen Houston, Principal Audiological Scientist, Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast presented the award.

The R.S. McCrea Medal is given annually to an eminent speaker on Pediatric Audiology/ENT. R.S.McCrea was a leading Consultant Pediatric ENT Surgeon in Belfast, Ireland. He was responsible for developing pediatric audiology services in the late 1970's early 1980's at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. He passed away in 1984. The Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children Paediatric Audiology and ENT Department were bequeathed a donation for the Annual Presentation and Medal.

As Director of Professional Relations, Beck supports Oticon's academic, clinical and educational efforts on both sides of the Atlantic and across the globe.  He is a prolific author with 171 articles in the professional literature and more than 710 abstracts, interviews and op-eds (opinion/editorial) written for the American Academy of Audiology addressing a vast wide variety of audiology and professional topics.
