Doctor of Audiology Summer Commencement Marks Five Years of Dedication to Distance Learning

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -The University of Florida Joint Audiology Program, this August marked five years of operations with commencement activities for the Class of Summer 2003. From Long Island to San Diego-and cities in between, 31 graduates received Doctor of Audiology degrees, bringing the total number of distance-learning graduates in the program to 615.

Collaboration of the Colleges of Health Professions department of communicative disorders and Liberal Arts and Sciences department of communication sciences, the program offers a professional degree to students across the U.S. Alice E. Holmes, Ph.D., Doctor of Audiology program director and graduate coordinator of the distance-learning program announced during commencement that the faculty at the University of Florida remain as committed today as when the first class in was admitted in 1998.

"Our Doctor of Audiology program is constantly evolving, and I credit our students-they are the force that keeps us enthused and challenged to be the best program we can be," Dr. Holmes said.

The program's course delivery system has been integrated into to the University of Florida's Web-based course management system, WebCT. Joy Colle, MBA, Distance-Learning Doctor of Audiology program coordinator said the biggest difference in the program, over the past five years, is the infrastructure provided to distance learners developed and supported by the university.

"This fall, we look forward to another tremendous year with more program improvements along with the maturation of our distance-learning program," said Colle.

The University of Florida Doctor of Audiology program, introduces its new web site www.audiology.ufl.edu that provides information about UF's graduate audiology education including on-campus AuD, distance-learning AuD, and Ph.D. programs. Application forms are available on the Web.
