Wonderful Copenhagen has hosted the Copenhagen Jazz Festival since 1979. Every summer, on the first Friday in July, 250,000 people open their ears to the enormous variety of music defining itself under the umbrella name of "jazz". In the course of the next 10 days, Danes and thousands of international visitors have had a choice of no less than 800 individual concerts.
Copenhagen has always had a jazz reputation. In the 1960s, people like Ben Webster, Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon, Kenny Drew, Oscar Pettiford, Thad Jones and many others not only played in Copenhagen, but actually lived in the city. This helped boost the already vigorous jazz community in and around Copenhagen.
Within the framework of the Hear the World initiative, a partnership has been established with the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, in particular the Kids' Jazz events. The aim is to increase the awareness among kids and their parents of the amazing wonders of music and our sense of hearing. And also the importance of protecting our sense of hearing.
