Comfort Audio Contego® Helps Courtrooms Secure Proceedings

Share:
Chicago, IL - Security in the courtroom just improved as non-secure assisted listening devices (ALD) for the hard of hearing (HoH) are being replaced by a wireless digital High-Definition ALD system developed by Comfort Audio. The Comfort Contego® HD Courtroom Listening System keeps what is said in the courtroom behind closed doors and improves conditions for the ADA- dependent hearing impaired public, jurors, defendants, lawyers, court reporters and interpreters.

Patrik Liljekvist, Sales & Marketing Director North, Central & South America for Comfort Audio explains the technology stating, "Quite simply, we've developed a secure system that sends the coded radio transmission digitally over secure channels. There's nothing to install and it works right out of the box. And as of today, we're the only manufacturer that can provide this encryption, portability, versatility and HD quality sound securely to customers."

The issues of access and security are often challenged by ethics and policy. Shannon Elizabeth Smith, Director of Hard of Hearing Services for the State of New Mexico Commission for Deaf & Hard of Hearing Persons explains their decision. "As a individual who not only works with individuals with hearing loss, but has one myself, the courtroom is a very intimidating place when you can not access communication. The Comfort Contego offers not only high sound quality and multiple alternatives to work with different hearing aids and hearing losses, but the confidentiality we require. To know that I can use the Comfort Contego and maintain the highest level of privacy and confidentiality makes this product the top selection for me."

From ominous rooms with poor acoustics to witnesses with poor projection hearing what is said in the courtroom has historically been a challenge for court reporters, interpreters, and attorneys charged with getting it all on the record. Comfort Audio has developed proprietary noise-filtering processes to deliver clear, enhanced sound to make their job easier, and the record more accurate. Hearing-aid users with a T-coil or personal headset can access this same audio feed to expand its accessibility.
