On May 1st, 2008 the Colorado General Assembly designated May 21st, 2008 as Tinnitus Awareness Day.
The resolution states the importance of continuing research for a cure for tinnitus, and encourages private and public organizations to provide funding for research into alleviating tinnitus. Two CO House members spoke in support of the resolution, sharing their personal experiences with tinnitus, and how it has affected their lives. Present at the proceedings were CO resident and tireless tinnitus crusader Donna Brown and her husband, Gary. Ms. Brown climbed Mt. Rainier twice in recent years in fundraising efforts that yielded $439,000 for the American Tinnitus Association (ATA). ATA estimates that more than 50 million Americans experience tinnitus. The May 21st date was chosen in conjunction with National Tinnitus Awareness Week which runs from May 18 - May 24.
