Cochlear Americas Hosts Free Hearing Health Fair for Denver Residents with Severe to Profound Hearing Loss

WHAT: Did you know hearing is the one sense that can be restored? The Hearing Heath Fair is a free, informative and fun opportunity for people who struggle with hearing aids to learn more about the latest hearing treatment options. The fair will include captioned informational sessions with experienced medical professionals from the Denver area who will explain why hearing loss occurs and why hearing aids may not be enough for some. Attendees will also learn about the latest available treatment options, including cochlear implants and Baha devices, as well as insurance reimbursement discussions. Beyond the science, attendees will have a unique opportunity to meet real cochlear implant users and hear their stories firsthand, and share their own challenges and experiences. Refreshments will be served.

WHEN: Saturday, September 18, 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

8:30a.m. - 9:15 a.m.: When Hearing Aids May No Longer Be Enough- How to know and what other solutions may be available.

9:45a.m. - 10:30a.m.: Life After a Cochlear Implant- Learn about living with cochlear implants and hear inspirational stories of other Coloradans who have successfully had their hearing restored with a cochlear implant.

11:00a.m. - 12:30 p.m.: Surgeon and Cochlear Implant User Panel- Panel discussion with cochlear implant surgeons and cochlear implant users.

1:00p.m. - 1:30p.m.: When Hearing Aids May No Longer Be Enough - Session, no Q&A

1:30p.m. - 2:00p.m.: Life After a Cochlear Implant - Session, no Q&A

WHY: Colorado has more than 418,000 people who are identified as deaf or hard of hearing (Colorado Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing). According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, aging plays a significant role in hearing loss. Rates of hearing loss jump from 18 percent for ages 45 to 64 to 30 percent for ages 65 to 74, and 47 percent for those 75 and older.
