Gov. Jennifer Granholm has appointed Linda Seestedt-Stanford, assistant dean of The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions at CMU, to serve on the newly inaugurated licensure board from Oct. 20, 2004, to June 30, 2008.
"It's an honor to be selected to serve on this state board that will monitor Michigan audiologists," said Seestedt-Stanford. "This is something I have been advocating for more than 25 years. Michigan is one of the last states to recognize audiology for licensure, and this is a move forward by the governor. It's even more exciting because four members of this board are graduates of CMU's audiology program."
The Michigan Board of Audiology is responsible for overseeing the licensure and regulation of audiologists, including establishing specific requirements for licensure.
Serving with Stanford are the following CMU alumni:
- Lari P. Korpela of Livonia, an audiologist at the Metropolitan Speech and Hearing Center in Eastpointe. She is appointed to represent audiologists for a term expiring June 30, 2005.
- Gyl A. Kasewurm of St. Joseph, president and clinical audiologist for Professional Hearing Services Ltd. She is appointed to represent audiologists for a term expiring June 30, 2007.
- Karen A. Jacobs of Rockford, the owner/president and audiologist of AVA Hearing Center Inc. in Grand Rapids. She is appointed to represent audiologists for a term expiring June 30, 2007.
