MINNEAPOLIS (July 23, 2015) — Starkey Hearing Foundation is pleased to announce that Christopher B. Coleman, Mayor of the City of Saint Paul, has proclaimed Sunday, July 26, 2015 to be William F. Austin Day.

Mr. Austin is the founder, owner and CEO of Starkey Hearing Technologies and the founder of Starkey Hearing Foundation. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the Starkey Hearing Foundation So the World May Hear Awards Gala, held on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Saint Paul RiverCentre.

The So the World May Hear Awards Gala is Minnesota’s largest fundraising event, raising more than $8.7 million in 2014. Donations are used to provide hundreds of thousands of free hearing aids to children and adults, and support hearing health programs and initiatives in Minnesota, the U.S., and the world.

“The City of Saint Paul is delighted to honor William F. Austin for his commitment to using hearing as a vehicle to reflect caring and change lives around the world,” says Mayor Coleman. “Because of Mr. Austin’s vision, passion, and commitment to hearing technology, Minnesota—and the world—has become a better place.”

About Starkey Hearing Foundation

Starkey Hearing Foundation uses hearing as a vehicle to reflect caring and change lives around the world. Disabling hearing loss affects more than 360 million people, including 32 million children, worldwide, yet many do not have access to the hearing devices that can help them. As a member of Clinton Global Initiative, Starkey Hearing Foundation has pledged to provide more than one million hearing aids to people in need this decade and currently gives more than 175,000 hearing aids annually. In addition to giving the gift of hearing through worldwide hearing missions, Starkey Hearing Foundation promotes hearing health awareness and education through the Listen Carefully campaign and provides hearing instruments to low-income Americans through the Hear Now program. Started as the philanthropic effort of Starkey Hearing Technologies, Starkey Hearing Foundation was founded by William F. Austin in 1984.
