September 27, 2010 - New York, NY. - On Friday, October 22, 2010 a one-day workshop will be held at Weill Cornell Medical College in NY, NY, to address some of the concerns audiologists have when it comes to counseling adults and parents of children with hearing loss.
Jane Madell, Ph.D. and Johnnie Sexton, Au.D. will discuss issues related to audiologic counseling and introduce participants to the CARE Project. This program reviews 7 emotional stages of grief associated with loss and allows participants to observe and analyze 8 families touched by hearing challenges and their perspectives through a documentary film viewing. This process will require active listening on the part of the participants as each story is viewed in order to identify the different emotions discussed. The desired outcome for participants is to identify the components necessary to become active listeners when counseling patients and their families.
The workshop is eligible for a total of .6 CEUs from ASHA and AAA. Registration is $75 for professionals and $40 for students. Space is limited. For more information or to register, please contact Nancy Rubinstein at ner2006@med.cornell.edu
