The Widex Community Giveback Day Program allowed Ann Mundell-Noel of Amazing Hearing Inc. to give back to a patient who has shown generosity to others time and time again.
LAGUNA HILLS, CALIFORNIA, November 13, 2024 – Bob Swanson is a fixture in the Laguna Hills, California community, having serviced and repaired over one hundred local pools a week for the last 50 years. “Communication is very important to me to do my job well,” Bob explained. “I need to be able to hear what my customers' needs are. Unfortunately, my genetic hearing loss has made that difficult.”
Bob has been a patient of local audiologist Ann Mundell-Noel of Amazing Hearing for many years, along with his immediate family who also suffer from genetic hearing loss. According to Mundell-Noel, Bob is one of the most hard-working people she’s ever met, and he has an innate knack for always helping everyone around him.
For example, when his sister-in-law needed hearing aids she could not afford, he put her above himself and pooled the funds to buy them. And when local customers can’t afford a plumber or handyman to fix things around the house, he often steps in to donate his time and offer a helping hand. “As an audiologist and a long-time friend to his family, I want to do whatever I can to give him the quality of life that he did not think he was going to have with his profound and progressive hearing loss,” Mundell-Noel said.
That’s why, when she learned of Widex’s Community Giveback Day through her participation in the Partners in Excellence for You Program, she knew without hesitation that it was the perfect opportunity to treat Bob how he treats others – and fit him with a brand new pair of Widex MOMENT hearing aids.
“Widex is my go-to hearing aid brand, and I wanted to capitalize on the company’s generosity to make a difference in Bob’s life,” Mundell-Noel said. “He really, really deserves it.”
New sound, new quality of life
When Bob found out he was the recipient of the Widex Community Giveback Day donation, he was overcome with emotion. “I was shocked, overwhelmed, and very grateful,” Bob explained. “Being chosen to be the recipient of a donation was something that doesn’t really happen to me. I didn’t know how to react.”
Mundell-Noel was steadfast in her belief that Widex MOMENT hearing aids would solve the issues he had been experiencing with his previous pair. “It’s the ideal solution for Bob’s progressive genetic hearing loss based on its ability to produce crisp, clear sound,” she said. “Plus, it keeps the speech intact, which gives him the best opportunity to maximize comprehension and understanding to enhance social interaction.”
During the fitting, Mundell-Noel opted to provide Bob with hard ear molds that offer the quality and durability that is required of his physically demanding job. “He often sweats in the sun all day, so having something water resistant and easy-to-clean was a big priority,” Mundell-Noel added.
The entire fitting process was more than comfortable for Bob, who has been an Amazing Hearing patient for decades. “Ann takes satisfaction in making people hear the way they need to with Widex. I can’t say enough about how important Ann is to me. I love her very much, and my kids do too,” he added.
The Widex upgrade
Bob has already noticed a substantial sound quality difference in his day-to-day life. He also touts other quality-of-life upgrades like Bluetooth accessibility and TV play connectivity. “My previous hearing aids didn’t give me the sharpness or clarity that Widex hearing aids do. It makes it very easy to hear and understand my customers,” he commented.
According to Mundell-Noel, she is thrilled to be able to give back to Bob and help him better address his hearing loss. “Addressing hearing loss is so incredibly important,” she concluded. “The brain can’t retain what it doesn’t hear. With Widex, it’s so swift that it allows the brain more time to process, and therefore, absorb, deepening social interaction and enhancing quality of life. Being able to give the gift of Widex sound to Bob has been an absolute joy!”
