Alexandria, VA. (September 7, 2004) - In an effort to address the extremely low percentage of patients that receive any type of hearing screening in the primary care physician's office, the Better Hearing Institute (BHI) has added a "Quick Hearing Check" pad to the materials included in BHI's Physician Referral Development Program.
The self-scoring Quick Hearing Check, based on the Revised American Academy of Otoloryngology-Head & Neck Surgery five-minute hearing check, allows the patient to evaluate their hearing loss against the National Council on the Aging norms. The form explains to the respondent how their significant other views their hearing loss and recommends actions to address their hearing loss based on their score.
The "Quick Hearing Check" pads are available to all dispensers who are participants in BHI's Physician Referral Development Program. This Program provides dispensers with educational materials to assist them in educating the medical community in their local area on the impact of hearing loss on the quality of life of their patients. Dispensers can enroll in the Program by visiting BHI's website at betterhearing.org.
The Better Hearing Institute is a 501(c)3, not-for-profit corporation created in 1973 to promote hearing healthcare across the United States. BHI's mission is to educate the public and medical profession about hearing loss, its treatment and prevention.
