Featured Stories Shed Light on the Everyday Impact of Hearing Loss
Chicago, July 2011 - At age 38, Dr. John Brein, a respected anesthesiologist from Chesapeake, Virginia, began to notice that he was having difficulty hearing surgeons talk in the operating room with masks over their faces. After telling a friend, an otolaryngologist, about the issue and receiving an audiogram test, Dr. Brein learned that he was suffering from hearing loss and would need hearing aids in both ears.
This news and his interest in technology led him to a Beltone hearing care center, where he was fitted with the Beltone True, a new generation of virtually invisible, Bluetooth-compatible hearing instruments that wirelessly receive sound directly from TV, cell/home phone, stereo, PC and iPod via a 2.4 GHz signal.
"With a hearing impairment, everyday activities like watching TV, going out to dinner and keeping up in conversation can be challenging," explains Dr. Brein. "I decided to get hearing aids because I was having difficulty hearing what people around me were saying. I found myself talking at a much louder tone of voice so people could hear me and never realized that the sore throat I continued to experience was from my own yelling. It was frustrating for me and for those I care about."

Dr. Brein's story is one of many Beltone is sharing as part of its True Stories campaign - a recently launched initiative designed to shed light on the impact of hearing loss and the ways Beltone products have changed lives.
Inspirational stories sent in from across the country will be featured on Beltone's website (www.beltone.com) and highlighted in local markets across the country.

Dr. Brein and other individuals who shared their stories with the True Stories campaign were featured in short, personalized video vignettes at Beltone's 2011 National Meeting, held May 12-14 in San Antonio, Texas. Each year, hearing care practitioners from around the world gather at this event to share ideas, participate in educational seminars on new technologies and learn about the company's latest products and services.
