Babyhearing.org Adds New Spanish Version

Share:

Boys Town National Research Hospital has sponsored www.babyhearing.org as a resource for families who have a hearing-impaired child. The experts who collaborated in the presentation of information for the site include audiologists, speech-language pathologists, as well as geneticists and parents of hearing-impaired children. The website offers inclusive sections regarding newborn hearing screenings, amplification options, cochlear implantation, causes of hearing loss, and a unique parent-to-parent forum that addresses issues specifically for parents.

In the past, the website catered only to English speakers; but recently the website was refurbished to include the same information for Spanish-speaking families. This update provides a research-based tool that may effectively attend to concerns of families when an audiologist or educator does not speak Spanish.

The site offers not only information on hearing, but early intervention strategies and guidelines for language learning and social interaction. Collaboration of information presented on the website is also supported by The National Institute for Deafness and Communication Disorders, The University of Arkansas, and The Children's Hospital of Little Rock.
