On 18-19 November 2013 the British Academy of Audiology is excited to be returning to the North West for its annual conference at Manchester Central Conference Centre. This year, the conference will celebrate its 10th anniversary with ‘Building Skills for the Future’ which will address a broad range of clinical, academic and professional issues with audiology.
Registration, abstract submission and award nominations are now available at https://www.baaudiology.org/
The Programme:
Drawing on the expertise of high-level presenters, the conference will emphasise on building clinical and professional skills relevant and transferrable to everyday practice. Sessions will look outwardly to other professions and consider how learning from other specialisms will help to further enhance the role of hearing professionals. In addition this year's conference will look within the profession to explore the latest research findings, upcoming innovative methods and clinical techniques. The programme will include:
- A clinical skills workshop to develop practical hands-on clinical skills - brushing up for the rusty or something new for those wishing to acquire additional skills.
- Specific hearing, tinnitus balance and paediatric learning tracks
- A dedicated learning track for assistant audiologists
- A dedicated learning track for students
- A professional affairs track which will highlight issues related to education and developments within the UK
- A manufacturers' track which will include demonstrations of the latest equipment and instruction on new techniques
We are excited that Professor Louise Hickson will be delivering this year’s key note speech ‘building skills for the future’. Professor Hickson is head of the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and Co-Director of the Communication Disability Centre at The University of Queensland and her presentation will look at future research and changes that we may experience in the audiology field in forthcoming years.
This year’s Bamford lecture ‘Tracking auditory skill development from the newborn period: Validating our amplification fitting, cochlear implant mapping and early intervention’ will be given by Dr Christine Yoshinnago-Itano, Professor of Audiology at the University of Colorado. We hope that Dr Yoshinago-Itano will offer a fascinating insight into her work, having conducted research in the areas of language, speech, and social-emotional development of deaf and hard-of-hearing infants and children for over thirty years.
The Exhibition:
In 2012, 46 exhibitors took part in the exhibition and it is expected that this year’s will be bigger and better as we invite all manufacturers, suppliers and service providers within the audiology field to attend the conference. If you are interested in exhibiting please contact events@baaudiology.org
Call for Abstracts:
Free paper and poster presentations form an integral part of the conference and are a fantastic way for those working within the audiology field to share best practice, research and network with colleagues. The BAA is calling for abstracts in the following categories: Hearing, Ageing and Cognition, Paediatrics, Complex Needs, Adult Rehabilitation, Balance, Tinnitus. Successful submissions will have their research displayed at conference or maybe asked to present orally to audiologists from the UK and beyond. Submission deadline for abstracts is 15th July 2013.
