Auditory Rehabilitation Conference Slated For May 8-12 at UT Dallas' Callier Center

Share:
The Summer Intensive Auditory Rehabilitation Conference (SIARC), a unique program held annually for adults with hearing impairment, will take place May 8-12 at UT Dallas' Callier Center for Communication Disorders, located at 811 Synergy Park Blvd. in Richardson.

Because hearing impairment affects an individual's communication with others, the conference is specially designed for a participant and his or her communication partner, who may be a spouse, family member, friend or co-worker.

Guest speaker for this year's event is Dr. Arthur Boothroyd, a speech and hearing scientist and scholar-in-residence at San Diego State University.

The conference will include group classes about coping with hearing loss, facilitating communication and technological advances in the hearing industry, and participants will be able to try new digital hearing aids and use various assistive listening devices. Attendees also will receive hearing aid checks and complete audiological evaluations. There will be special evening activities to utilize the skills learned and test some of the assistive listening devices in real-life situations. SIARC is hosted by UT Dallas' Advanced Hearing Research Center.

The conference features space for approximately 20 adults. The event is $350 per couple and the registration fee includes all classes, assessments, activities and meals for participants and their partner. Individual attendees also are welcome for $175. Tuition scholarships will be offered, pending available funds, and registration forms must be received by May 1 for scholarship consideration.
