Each December on AudiologyOnline, we highlight the top articles and recorded courses from the year. We had the best year ever, and thus had a very difficult time limiting this list only to 10. Here goes!
Articles/Text Courses
1. 20Q: Treating Patients with Hyperacusis and Other Forms of Decreased Sound Tolerance
2. 20Q: Frequency Lowering - The Whole Shebang
How do you pick the top 20Q with Gus Mueller articles, when they are all top articles? With authors like De Wet Swanepoel, Lisa Hunter, Nina Kraus, Susan Scollie, Erin Picou, Dan Ostergren, Joshua Alexander, Jay Hall, Yu-Hsiang Wu and Kelly Tremblay - you simply have to resort to “Eeny meeny miny moe”. These are two great articles from a stellar collection - enjoy them all at www.audiologyonline.com/20Q
3. Compliance, Legalities and Ethics in Audiology. This is a great review of important ethical and regulatory issues that every audiologist should read, by Dr. Kim Cavitt.
4. Vanderbilt Audiology's Journal Club: Effects of Hearing Preservation for Cochlear Implant Outcomes. A nice summary and analysis of the latest information on an important clinical topic by Dr. René Gifford.
5. Monosyllabic Word Testing: Five Simple Steps to Improve Accuracy and Efficiency. This is my favorite CEU article on AudiologyOnline.
Recorded Courses
In addition to our weekly expert webinars, this year we had so many great special events - an electrophysiology series, a webinar series with Rush Univeristy, the Vanderbilt Audiology’s Journal Club, a virtual conference with Seminars in Hearing, our Back to Basics series, and SO MUCH MORE!
6. Audiology Grand Rounds at Henry Ford Hospital - Diagnostics. We started the year with a week-long conference at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, where our video production team provided live video streaming. It was a fantastic week, thanks to all the hard work of the audiology staff at the hospital. All of these courses can be found in the library under the topic “Grand Rounds”.
7. The UWO PedAMP: An Evidence-Based Outcome Evaluation Guideline for Infants, Toddlers and Preschool Children. In May, we had three presenters from the prestigious Western University, home of DSL. This is one of those great courses, presented by Dr. Marlene Bagatto.
8. Otoprotective Agents for Prevention of Acquired Hearing Loss in Humans. One of the course evaluations put it best, “Probably the best course I have ever taken - online or at a conference”. This was part of the 2013 noise induced hearing loss series, organized by Dr. Brian Fligor and presented by Dr. Colleen LePrell.
9. Neurodiagnostic Auditory Evoked Responses Applications. Dr. Sam Atcherson gives clear explanations and practical information on MLR, CERP, LLR and P300 that may be relevant to auditory processing disorders, auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder, and other brain-related lesions. This course is one course in a four-part series covering current topics in electrophysiology, organized by Guest Editor Dr. James Hall.
10. Back to Basics: Immittance Audiometry. The entire Back to Basics series organized by Dr. Maureen Valente was wonderful - this course presented by Dr. Lisa Hunter was a jam-packed review with new information weaved in as well.
