Share:
PITTSBURGH, November 16, 2010—Audiology educators will gather on June 9-11, 2011 for the fourth biennial audiology teaching conference at the University of Pittsburgh. This year's focus will address the challenging issues in the art and science of teaching Pediatric and Educational Audiology. As a bonus, this year's conference will be preceded by a half-day symposium on links from auditory to literacy development.

The Art and Science of Teaching Challenging Topics in Pediatric and Educational Audiology," will be chaired by Catherine Palmer, PhD. The goal of the conference is to provide audiology faculty and clinical instructors an opportunity to discuss best practices in teaching pediatric and educational audiology. Conference faculty are nationally recognized educators who will share examples of course handouts, practicum strategies, reference lists, take-home assignments, lab exercises, exams, and more. Break-out sessions and poster sessions will give participants an opportunity to share classroom and clinical teaching ideas with colleagues. Participants will take home a CD of conference materials and contact information to facilitate ongoing interaction about teaching interests. Participants also will have the opportunity to attend a half day "think-tank" symposium on the impact of audition on literacy development featuring additional speakers. The symposium is sponsored in part by a grant from the Office of Special Education Programs (US DOE). Registration for the symposium will be complimentary for Teaching Conference attendees, but others interested in developmental issues in literacy and auditory processing are encouraged to attend this half-day symposium, as well.
