The AFA has named two new directors to its board, as well as new members to its Advisory Committee, as it continues to pursue its enhanced mission to empower audiologists to be independent and autonomous practitioners. The new directors, Jenifer W. Cushing, Au.D., and Mary Anne Larkin, Au.D., and the new advisory committee members assumed their duties as of Jan. 1, 2009.
Dr. Cushing is a Maryland licensed audiologist working in private practice. She received her Doctor of Audiology degree from the University at Buffalo in 2004, where she served as national representative of the National Association of Future Doctors of Audiology (NAFDA). She also later served as that organization's vice president. She was a guest member of the AFA's Futures Initiative, and has authored and co-authored many scientific peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Cushing and her husband, Ross Cushing, Au.D., own A&A Maryland Hearing Center with locations in Chevy Chase, Silver Spring and Gaithersburg, Maryland.
Dr. Larkin has been a practicing audiologist since 1983 and received her Au.D. from the University of Florida in 2000. She has served as president of the South Carolina Academy of Audiology, and has published numerous articles on audiology private practice issues. In addition to numerous other awards throughout her career, Dr. Larkin received the 2005 Leo Doerfler Award from the Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA), which honors excellence in clincial practice. She is a fellow of the ADA, the American Academy of Audiology, and the South Carolina Academy of Audiology, and is board certified by the American Board of Audiology (ABA).
Also effective Jan. 1, 2009, Granville Y. Brady, Au.D., is serving the AFA as treasurer. Parry Heide, Kenneth Lowder, Au.D., and Michael Thelen, Au.D., have fulfilled their terms of board service. Drs. Lowder and Thelen will continue their service to the AFA on the AFA Senior Advisors Council. David Cieliczka, Au.D., Kelly Halligan, Au.D., and Valenta Ward-Gravely, Au.D., have all completed their terms of service to the AFA Senior Advisors Council.
Peggy Blum, Au.D., has joined the AFA Advisory Committee, and committee members Stuart Horn, Au.D., Brad Ingrao, Au.D., Andrea Lindahl, Au.D., and Sharon Sorensen, Au.D., have all completed their terms of service.
