Lafayette, IN - The generosity of audiologists from across the country will help the Audiology Foundation of America (AFA) take the profession of audiology to the next level.
During the AFA's 2004 fundraising campaign nearly $58,000 was contributed by almost 300 donors. Starkey Laboratories contributed a matching grant of $50,000 bringing the grand total to nearly $108,000! The Board of Directors of the AFA extends its heartfelt thanks to Starkey CEO Bill Austin and President Jerry Ruzicka for their generous support in 2004 and in previous years as well.
According to Mr. Ruzicka, "Starkey Laboratories applauds the efforts of audiologists who continue their education to advance the profession for the benefit of the hearing impaired."
The AFA is committed to fostering the education and training of audiologists to meet the needs of the public. In 2004 the Foundation gave $75,000 to the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education to support new independent educational standards.
"We must set a new level of excellence in audiology education to better prepare new practitioners. In the past, most of our efforts focused on educating fellow audiologists. Now it's time to turn our attention to educating the public as well. The money raised will be used to help achieve these goals and with the help of our colleagues and the generosity of Starkey Laboratories we will take the profession to a higher degree," stated AFA Chair Kenneth L. Lowder, AuD.
