AuD Directory Online at AFA Website

West Lafayette, IN - The Audiology Foundation of America announces the publication of its directory of Doctors of Audiology. The directory is now online at: www.audfound.org. Introduced to Au.D. graduates in November, the directory allows audiologists and consumers to search by many criteria, such as finding Doctors of Audiology in a particular state or city.

"We believe it will enhance communication between Au.D.s, and allow them to find referral and consultation sources, as well as professional service partners," states AFA chair Kenneth Lowder, Au.D.

The complimentary directory will act as a referral base for physicians, consumers and other audiologists. Au.D. candidates may also use the website to locate clinical rotation sites and employment opportunities.

Currently over 800 Au.D.s are listed on the website. Participants may update their own information and add additional office information, as well as a photo if desired. As more Au.D. classes graduate, they will be added to the directory. Doctors of Audiology who are not listed in the directory may enroll on the website or contact the AFA office for assistance (765-743-6283). Many practices are adding this link to their websites so that patients who are away from home and in need of professional care can locate Doctors of Audiology nearby.

The AFA is sponsoring this service to enhance the value of the Au.D. to consumers and other professionals and to help unify the profession with the designator Au.D. Other online directories do not provide this information.

"As audiologists move toward the Au.D. as a unified designator for the profession, it is important to realize the benefits of referring patients to other Doctors of Audiology. Having a unified degree (Au.D.) and designator will help provide consistency of professional care for consumers and will provide physicians with quality care sources for their patients seeking audio-vestibular services. Doctors of Audiology who join in the transformation of the profession of Audiology are positioned for success in the health care arena," states Dr. Lowder.
