Au.D.s Now At 50 Percent of Profession

Share:
It has long been a goal of the audiology profession, and recognized as potential marking point of successful transition, that the profession reach a point where 50 percent of its practitioners hold the Au.D. degree. Recent data collected by the AFA shows that the profession has now reached that important milestone.

Since the beginning of the Au.D. transition, the AFA, with the help of Au.D. program directors across the country, has tabulated statistics on Au.D. graduate and enrollment numbers. Our 2009 data shows:

  • Total Au.D.s = 7,457

  • 2,028 residential grads (70 programs across the country)

  • 5,429 distance education grads (2,195 from the Arizona School of Health Sciences, 1,734 from Salus University, 1,256 from the University of Florida, 221 from Central Michigan University, and 23 from Nova Southeastern)

  • 3,508 Au.D. students are currently enrolled in programs (2,383 in residential programs and 1,125 in distance education programs)
Congratulations to the profession of audiology on this major accomplishment in its transition to the Au.D.!
