ATIS Submits New Multi-Band General Principles to FCC

Share:

The ATIS Hearing Aid Compatibility (HAC) Incubator - a group consisting of leading wireless service providers, wireless manufacturers, and hearing loss advocates - has submitted to the FCC detailed Multi-Band General Principles on hearing aid compatibility of handsets with multiple frequency bands and on modes for which no HAC standard currently exists.

The proposal was in response to a prompting from the FCC, which asked the ATIS HAC Incubator to address the matter after adopting the group's proposal regarding cell phone hearing aid compatibility rules in March, 2008. The ATIS HAC Incubator stated that the new Multi-Band General Principles "outline the consensus-driven recommendations of stakeholders for dealing with the multiband and multimode devices."

In addition to the new Multi-Band General Principles, the ATIS HAC Incubator announced it achieved consensus on new consumer focused labeling language for handsets that operate in frequency bands and/or modes currently lacking HAC standards. The language will be offered to consumers at the point of purchase, in owner manuals, and through corporate websites.
