ATEX Certification Proves Dynamite for Siemens UK

Range of hearing instruments launched for those working in explosive atmosphere environments.

Siemens has expanded its range of ATEX certified hearing instruments to provide exceptional sound quality to those working in explosive environments. Five of Siemens Hearing Instruments products have been cleared for use in potentially explosive atmospheres such as mines, factories, agricultural silos, rigs, oil and gas platforms, water and chemical processing environments. The certified products will benefit people with hearing loss that work with flammable gases, mists, vapours or combustible dusts.

ATEX is the European Directive for controlling explosive atmospheres. Any electrical or mechanical device used in such environments must be certified. Siemens' portfolio of ATEX certified products includes a range of hearing instruments that cater for a variety of individual requirements. This includes Behind-the-Ear (BTE) instruments that offer the highest comfort and usability such as the Motion XCEL range and the versatile discreet Receiver-in-Canal (RIC) instruments such as the Pure Carat XCEL.

The only waterproof digital hearing instrument in the world, Aquaris, is also now certified for use in explosive environments. In addition to being waterproof it is also dust and shock-proof, making it an ideal solution for those who require a robust hearing instrument that does not compromise on sound quality. Combined with a sports clip, Aquaris stays on the ear in any situation and takes away the challenges of working in industrial environments.

Siemens' Life, a small and stylish hearing solution, also joins the ATEX certification list, alongside Nitro, a high power device designed to enrich the lives of those with severe to profound hearing loss.

"One in six people suffer hearing loss so we're delighted to offer a wide range of solutions to match the lifestyle and occupations of people working in industrial and potentially explosive environments," said Wendy Davies, National Sales & Audiology Manager at Siemens Hearing Instruments. "This certification will provide extra confidence and comfort for a huge sector of the workforce."

ATEX certified hearing instruments can be provided by all Siemens dispensers. On asking for the ATEX version of the products, users will receive the appropriate certificate, validations card and ATEX user guide.

This list of Siemens ATEX certified products includes:

  • Motion XCEL SX & P (BTE)
  • Pure Carat XCEL (RIC)
  • Aquaris (BTE)
  • Nitro (BTE)
  • Life (BTE)
