Rockville, MD-January 28, 2011- The American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation (ASHFoundation) recently awarded nine audiologists and hearing scientists with research grants and scholarships. These awards support groundbreaking research investigations, research travel stipends, doctoral and master's education, and clinical developments.
"These awards demonstrate the commitment that both the ASHFoundation and our donors have to building the profession of audiology. These grants and scholarships will insure that the many deserving and aspiring audiologists and hearing scientists will be able to continue their research and education to help the more than 49 million Americans with a communication disorder," ASHFoundation President Jon F. Miller says.
The audiology recipients listed below were recognized and awarded at the annual ASHFoundation Founders Breakfast at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association's 2010 Annual Conference. More than 300 donors, corporate sponsors, and past awardees were in attendance to honor them.

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation is a charitable organization that promotes a better quality of life for children and adults with communication disorders. Its mission is to advance knowledge about the causes and treatment of hearing, speech, and language problems. The ASHFoundation also raises funds from individuals, corporations, and organizations to support research, graduate education, and special projects that foster discovery and innovation in the field of communication sciences.
The ASHFoundation is affiliated with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) the national professional, scientific, and credentialing association for more than 140,000 audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists. Audiologists specialize in preventing and assessing hearing and balance disorders as well as providing audiologic treatment including hearing aids. Speech-language pathologists identify, assess, and treat speech and language problems including swallowing disorders.
