The American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation gave the funding to exceptionally innovative and talented researchers, students and clinicians at the annual ASHFoundation Founders Breakfast during the 2008 ASHA Convention. This is the largest one-time dispersement of charitable funding in the history of the ASHFoundation. More than 250 donors, corporate sponsors, and past awardees gathered to honor the new awardees, who received support and/or recognition for scholarships, research grants, and clinical achievement awards.
"We are very pleased that these awards were distributed with the goal of providing charitable resources and funding to advance and advocate for the future of audiology, speech-language pathology, and speech, language, and hearing science," ASHFoundation President Dennis Hampton says. "They help ensure excellence in training, support innovative new research, and provide the best possible treatments for the more than 49 million children and adults with a communication disorder."
