American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) member Cathy Runnels, Chair of the Board of Directors for the National Black Association for Speech-Language, and Hearing (NBASLH) greets Congressman James Clyburn of South Carolina;Majority Whip for the U.S. House of Representatives, at the ASHA sponsored legislative breakfast briefing on Capitol Hill.
Over 40 African American ASHA and NBASLH members attended the briefing, held April 17th in the Rayburn House Office Building, and then visited their legislators in the House and Senate to advocate for key issues related to education and healthcare that would assist minority populations with communication disorders. During this weekend celebration of NBASLH's 30th Anniversary, ASHA also sponsored a Student-Mentor Luncheon and hosted a reception at the ASHA National Office.
