(ROCKVILLE, MD)-The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) has received recognition for a number of the association's activities. The Association received seven national awards from the Society of National Association Publications (SNAP) and Association Trends newsletter including a coveted first-place award for the association's website. Recognized with runner-up awards was the ASHA Leader in the category Monthly Tabloid, and the ASHA Career Mover CD-Rom in the category Membership Promotion Kit.

"This acknowledgement by the association community shows that ASHA has some of the most effective communication vehicles to serve its member's needs," said Frederick T. Spahr, ASHA's executive director.

The association's public relations activities also received recognition. A campaign aimed at creating awareness for the role that school speech-language pathologists and audiologists play in a child's speech, language, and hearing development was highlighted in a feature article in the October issue of Executive Update published by the Greater Washington Society of Association Executives. In addition, an ASHA video on newborn hearing screening received a Telly Award. The Telly affiliated with the Center for Creativity has become one of the most sought-after awards in the TV, commercial, and video industry because it gives recognition to outstanding non-network, cable commercials, film, and video productions.

ASHA is the national professional, scientific, and credentialing association for more than 108,000 audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists. Audiologists are hearing health care professionals who specialize in preventing, identifying, and assessing hearing disorders as well as providing audiologic treatment including hearing aids and other assistive listening devices. Speech-language pathologists are the professionals who identify, assess, and treat speech and language problems including swallowing disorders.
