Share:
Rockville, MD - September 13, 2011-The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) will Co-Title Sponsor USO San Diego's 20th Annual Holiday Concert, an event that will deliver a lot of holiday cheer to local military families and San Diegans along with a safe listening message from ASHA's Listen To Your Buds public education campaign.

Scheduled for Saturday, November 19, at the Balboa Theater in San Diego, the concert will feature the U.S. Marine Corps Band and the award-winning children's music group Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band. Los Angeles CBS affiliate KCAL9 recently hailed Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band as one of the "Best Kids' Bands in LA." The November concert will coincide with ASHA's Annual Convention, which will be held this year in San Diego on November 17-19.

ASHA's Listen To Your Buds campaign educates the young about using personal audio technology safely to prevent acquiring noise-induced hearing loss.

"We are delighted to lend our support for this event to USO San Diego and in the process provide an important health message to our military families who do so much for our country," ASHA President Paul R. Rao, PhD, CCC-SLP, says. "Personal audio technology is a very popular holiday gift, so the concert will be especially timely, too."

"USO San Diego enthusiastically welcomes ASHA's Co-Title Sponsorship of this milestone 20th Annual Holiday Concert," according to John T. Dooley, President and CEO of USO San Diego. "Support from new partners, like ASHA, enables this USO to expand in-demand services and programs to the largest military community in the world." Dooley adds: "With the military's unavoidable exposure to high noise levels, it is important for the entire family to be knowledgeable about protecting the gift of hearing. ASHA's Listen To Your Buds campaign, is spot on for our military families and other San Diegans who will attend."

San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders has declared November 14-18 "Buds In The Schools Week," an observation that will encompass the entire local school system and include in-school performances by Buds campaign musicians who will encourage kids to value and protect their hearing by keeping the volume down when they use personal audio technology. Some 60 leading musicians in children's music make up the Buds musician coalition.

Sponsors of the Buds campaign are "The Absolutely Mindy Show" on Sirius XM's Kids Place Live!,Califone, Consumer Electronics Association, Educational Audiology Association, National Association for Music Education, Music Teachers National Association, National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts, National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, Parents' Choice Foundation, Recording Industry Association of America, and Tune-A-Fish Records.

Also, a bipartisan group of more than a dozen members of Congress are honorary co-chairs of the campaign.
