Honor To Be Given by National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing.
(Rockville, MD) - The National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing (NBASLH) has awarded its William T. Simpkins, Jr. Service Award to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
The honor is named for William T. Simpkins Jr., an NBASLH founder and charter member, who was described as having "clearly exemplified the true meaning of service" and whose life work demonstrated the meaning of the NBASLH logo, "Reach out with the echo of understanding and speak out for all to hear."
NBASLH gives the award to those with a record of outstanding accomplishments and multiple service activities. First awarded in 2009, ASHA is the only organization to earn the honor to date. It will be presented to ASHA during NBASLH’s Annual Convention in Washington, DC April 12–14.
"ASHA has valued the opportunity to work collaboratively with NBASLH in the pursuit of mutual goals related to the discipline and practice of the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology," ASHA President Elise Davis-McFarland, PhD, CCC-SLP said.
"We are honored, grateful, and humbled to be recognized for our efforts through this award. I had the pleasure of knowing Bill Simpkins. His model of leadership and professionalism left a legacy that continues to inspire not only NBASLH members, but also many others."
