The Nominating Committee of the Council For Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CFCC) is soliciting nominations to fill four vacancies on the CFCC in 2009:
- Two ASHA certified speech-language pathologists
- One ASHA certified audiologist
- One ASHA certified speech-language pathologist or ASHA certified audiologist to fill the CFCC member at-large vacancy
CFCC Charge
The charges to the CFCC are: to define the standards for clinical certification;to apply those standards in granting certification to individuals;to have final authority to withdraw certification in cases where certification has been granted on the basis of inaccurate information;and to administer the certification maintenance program.
General Requirements
Minimum requirements for service on the CFCC are current membership in ASHA and current certification in the area for which you are seeking appointment. Individuals interested in serving on the CFCC should be familiar with the charges to CFCC and understand the responsibilities involved. Service on the Council requires commitment and time. During certain periods of time, Council members can average 2 to 3 hours per week on CFCC activities. Members will establish certification standards and implementation language, determine the passing score on the Praxis examinations, review and evaluate selected applications process by the National Office staff, assist in the development of certification forms, and participate in e-mail discussions of questions from applicants and graduate educational programs.
The CFCC holds two three-day meetings per year at the ASHA National Office and a one-day meeting during the ASHA Convention. Attendance at these meetings is vital. ASHA reimburses normal travel expenses according to ASHA Travel Policies for two meetings a year - those held in the ASHA National Office. Expenses for the third meeting, held during the ASHA Convention, are not reimbursed. Meetings in the National Office are typically scheduled for one-half day on Thursday, all day Friday and Saturday, and one-half day on Sunday;or, less often, one-half day on Friday, all day Saturday and Sunday, and one-half day on Monday. The Convention meeting is held on Committee Day (the Wednesday before Convention opens) and usually runs from 9:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Nominations and Elections Process
The CFCC Nominating Committee will prepare a slate of candidates from the nominations received by the deadline, consisting of at least two individuals for each position. The slate will be presented to the ASHA Board of Directors for final selection. Please use the Nominations Form [PDF] on the ASHA Web site to submit your application to serve on the CFCC. If you wish to nominate someone other than yourself to serve on the CFCC, please verify their willingness to serve and encourage them to complete the Nominations Form. If you are unable to print the Nominations Form from the Web site, please provide your mailing address and we will be happy to mail the form to you.
