(May 27, 2008 - Rockville, MD) Coinciding with May's Better Hearing and Speech Month, the
Rockville, MD based American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), and the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) of Arlington, VA have agreed to continue to work together to further develop and promote the ASHA public education campaign America: Tuned In Today. But Tuned Out Tomorrow? www.listentoyourbuds.org
ASHA is the national professional, scientific, and credentialing association for more than 130,000 speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and speech and hearing scientists. CEA is the preeminent trade association encompassing more than 2,200 of the nation's most innovative technology companies and promotes growth in the consumer technology industry through technology policy, events, research, promotion and the fostering of business and strategic relationships.
"Our two organizations have proven themselves to be a very effective team in promoting the message about safe listening habits." ASHA President Catherine Gottfred observes. "ASHA is extremely grateful to CEA for its continued support, and we look forward to another productive year together."
"CEA's goal is to keep consumers listening for a lifetime," CEA's president and CEO Gary Shapiro says. "We want to make sure people understand how important it is to protect their hearing. On behalf of the consumer electronics industry, we are pleased to continue our support for ASHA's important public education campaign."
As with last year's agreement, ASHA will receive financial and in-kind support from CEA. In recognition of its nationwide impact, ASHA's campaign has been honored for two straight years by the American Society of Association Executives with an Associations Advance America award.
