Morales and Other Celebrities Speak Out about Hearing Safety and ASHA's Listen to Your Buds Campaign

Rockville, MD - August 01, 2011- Film/TV star Esai Morales is featured in the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association's (ASHA) public service announcement (PSA) about the potential harm of personal audio technology on hearing.

The PSA is part of ASHA's Listen to Your Buds campaign aimed to help youth prevent the devastating, lifelong effects of hearing loss. In the PSA, Morales, co-founder of the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts, recognizes that today's technology is pretty cool but that losing your hearing from misuse of it is not. Morales says, "Turn the volume down...That way, you'll be cool and you'll be able to listen for the rest of your life."

The Buds campaign and PSA warn young listeners that misuse of personal audio technology can lead to hearing loss. These efforts also promote safe listening habits such as turning down the volume and taking listening breaks.

ASHA has partnered with other celebrities to send the message of safe listening.
Grammy award winner Bill Harley, and Mindy Thomas of the 'Absolutely Mindy' show, Kids Place Live!, Sirius XM Radio speak out about the importance of safe listening habits at a summer kick-off event for ASHA's Listen To Your Buds campaign.

These leading figures are just a few of many key supporters of the campaign. ASHA is also working with the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts (NHFA), SiriusXM's Kids Place Live Channel, NIH's National Institute on Deafness and Other Communications Disorders (NIDCD), the National Association of Music Education (MENC) and the Music Teachers National Association, the Parents Choice Foundation, the Educational Audiology Association (EAA), Califone, Tune-A-Fish Records and 60 award-winning musicians.
