The grants are available to 3rd or 4th year students (as of Fall 2008) in four-year Au.D. programs. Student Mentoring Grant application forms and accompanying materials must be submitted to the AFA by October 6, 2008. Winners will participate in onsite mentoring program activities and receive paid convention registration, travel grants and sleeping rooms at the Green Valley Ranch Resort in Las Vegas. Most meals will also be provided.
Doctors of Audiology Darrell and Lee Micken take time to talk with students during the AFA's 2007 Au.D. Student Mentoring Program.
"This is a great opportunity for Au.D. students to meet some of the country's most successful private practitioners," said AFA Executive Director Susan Paarlberg. "The Student Mentoring Program is set up to encourage networking and allow students to make personal connections with practitioners who have already begun the professional journey these students are about to begin. The courses offered at the ADA convention will broaden the students' education and perspective, with a strong emphasis on private practice development and management."
The AFA developed this program, in conjunction with the ADA and the National Association of Future Doctors of Audiology (NAFDA), to further its commitment to fostering the education and training of future audiologists. For the second year in a row, ReSound and Widex are sponsoring the AFA's Student Mentoring Program. The AFA is an educational foundation whose mission is to empower audiologists to be independent and autonomous practitioners by supporting their educational preparation, professional practice and leadership development.
