Following on the heels of last year's successful inaugural conference, the Coalition for Global Hearing Health is set to provide a forum for hearing healthcare professionals (otolaryngologists, audiologists, deaf educators, industry representatives, non-governmental agency representatives, representatives of various professional societies) to meet and reach consensus about the best practices in global outreach. House Research Institute is hosting this 2nd Conference of the Coalition for Global Hearing Health, September 8 - 9th.
The Coalition's purpose is to advocate, to equip and empower both hearing healthcare professionals and also, families, educators, communities and the hearing impaired, and to encourage and perpetuate best practices. This year's meeting will begin at noon on Thursday, September 8 with attendees participating in small workgroup sessions with the intent to reach consensus and make recommendations on such topics as: How to improve advocacy with data and media;How de we improve training for hearing healthcare professionals;How can we empower families, educators, communities and the hearing impaired;What are the technical challenges and what do we need to overcome them;How do we insure best practices and standard of care. After a brief reception, Dr. Shelly Chadha, of Sound Hearing India, will provide the Keynote Speech titled, " Global Ear & Hearing Health: Where Do We Start?". Plenary Sessions, beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, September 9th, will be presented by approved speakers on topics that include: technology;training;epidemiology;and measuring outcomes. Each plenary session will end with discussion and suggested action items for the coalition to plan and implement.
As an added benefit, House Research Institute has agreed to offer a one day Temporal Bone Lab educational opportunity at a small cost one day prior to the conference. Conference co-chairs, James E. Saunders, MD (chair, Humanitarian Efforts Committee of the American Academy of Otolaryngology (AAO)-HNSF) and Jackie Clark, PhD (chair, Humanitarian Committee of the International Society of Audiology (ISA)) have said, "We are delighted to once again organize the Coalition for Global Hearing Health for representatives from the USA, the developed world and the developing world, so that multiple disciplines can work jointly in addressing the critical need for strategizing global hearing health.
