Ezairo 5900 series enables manufacturers to build 24-bit high precision hearing devices while optimizing performance and power consumption

Pocatello, Idaho (April 18, 2007) -- AMI Semiconductor (NASDAQ: AMIS), a designer and manufacturer of state-of-the-art integrated mixed-signal and structured digital products for the automotive, medical and industrial sectors, has launched the Ezairo 5900 series of integrated circuits and packaged hybrids for digital hearing aids. The Ezairo 5900 series was unveiled this week during AudiologyNOW! in Denver, Colorado.

Manufactured using 0.13-micron process technology, the Ezairo 5900 series features a 24-bit dual mac DSP core combined with the company's HEAR configurable accelerator engine. The unique dual-core architecture allows hearing aid manufacturers to customize the circuit for the optimal balance between performance and power consumption. The series also integrates analog front-end circuitry with an unmatched input dynamic range of 110dB that enables high sound precision and quality. The circuit's enhanced computing capability allows more efficient implementation of the complex algorithms found in today's hearing aids, while enabling manufacturers to craft even more sophisticated and intelligent signal processing software for future generations of products.

"We spent considerable time listening to and working with hearing aid manufacturers to understand their semiconductor needs for future hearing devices," said Michel De Mey, senior director, hearing and audio solutions at AMI Semiconductor. "We are confident that we've developed a product that offers a considerable leap in performance and functionality while at the same time further minimizing power consumption. We also continue to provide the flexibility to deploy speech and audio processing algorithms in software and enable the hardware to be reconfigured, which is a unique feature that manufacturers have come to expect and appreciate."

AMI Semiconductor's Ezairo 5900 series is a high-end complement to the existing Orela 4500 and Toccata Plus product lines. All necessary on-chip peripheral blocks are included to directly interface with transducers, a battery and controls. This enables manufacturers to build hearing aids of all form-factors including CIC, ITE, BTE, and the mini-BTE style that is rapidly gaining popularity.

As part of AMI Semiconductor's commitment to offering completely tailored solutions, a full suite of development tools, hands-on training and full technical support is available. In addition, the company's network of solution partners is also available to offer development support that enables manufacturers to quickly supplement and broaden their hearing aid product portfolios.
