(06/27/2008) - ASHA has been apprised that audiologists are doing very well in completing the American Medical Association Physician Practice Information Survey. The survey includes health care practitioners that bill Medicare directly. Audiologists have an approximate 72% response rate and only seven other professions (clinical social work, oral surgeons, hand surgeons, allergists/immunologists, colon and rectal surgeons, and podiatrists) have higher rates while 43 have lower rates.
The final data will allow ASHA to describe the challenges of running a practice that provides expert patient care, while operating a business that is sustainable. The study results will not only help in the short-term but will allow future generations of audiologists to continue providing superior care to their patients. One particularly important section of the study pertains to practice expenses and the amounts that are attributable to an audiologist's private practice. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has indicated that the results of this study will be used to help determine payment for those practitioners who directly bill Medicare.
ASHA encourages audiologists who have been contacted by the survey firm, DmrKynetec, to make the requested information available to them. Your practice's input is essential to ensure accurate and fair representation for all audiologists and their patients. For more information, please see the Frequently Asked Questions [PDF].
