Lee RechWashington, D.C. – April 24, 2013 – The AG Bell Academy for Listening and Spoken Language announces the appointment of Lee Rech, Esq., to its board of directors for the 2013-2015 term.

Rech received her Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas and was the chief prosecutor of the Special Prosecution Unit-Civil Division for the State of Texas from 2008-2012 and a trial attorney for the agency from 2007-2008. As the section chief of the division, she managed a $2.4 million budget and supervised 9 trial and appellate attorneys. She was responsible for the civil prosecution of sexually violent predators pursuant to the Sexually Violent Predator Act, legislation to which she drafted and proposed amendments during her tenure.

Rech and her husband Steve became supporters and members of AG Bell in 1997, soon after their daughter Anna was diagnosed at 6 months of age with profound hearing loss. In 1998, when Anna was 15 months old, Lee and Steve attended their first AG Bell Convention. Rech worked collaboratively and aggressively with a wide array of hearing health professionals to ensure that her daughter, now age 16, learned to listen and speak. She is currently an at-home mom for the remainder of Anna’s school years.

Rech has served on the Board of Directors of the Houston Ear Research Foundation, as co-chair for the Center for Hearing and Speech Annual Gala in Houston, Texas, and was a member of Auditory-Verbal International.

“As an attorney and as a parent of a child with hearing loss, Rech brings valuable insight to the AG Bell Academy Board of Directors as well as passion and dedication to advancing listening and spoken language for all families that choose this outcome and to increasing the availability of services and access to Listening and Spoken Language Specialists,” said Lyn Robertson, Ph.D., president of the AG Bell Academy.
