AFA Supports AuD Education

Share:
Lafayette, IN - During a ceremony held in Phoenix in February, two third year AuD students at Arizona School of Health Sciences received Audiology Foundation of America Student Excellence Awards. The recipients, Amanda Teuscher and Kristin Degueyter, were presented with $500 scholarships and otoscopes by AFA Executive Director Susan Paarlberg.

In 2002 the AFA awarded both Arizona School of Health Sciences and Pennsylvania College of Optometry's School of Audiology $20,000 to endow the student award funds in perpetuity. Teuscher and Degueyter were the first to receive these awards. Recipients must rank in the top fifth of their class and demonstrate a commitment to professional organizational involvement.

Eighty-one third year AuD students, who attended the NAFDA Luncheon held during the AAA Convention, received otoscopes and professional symbol pins from the AFA. Presented by Executive Director Susan Paarlberg, the gifts were made possible by donations to the AFA's Memorial Fund and the generous support of Oaktree Products.

Two practitioners will receive $1000 scholarships from the AFA to support their AuD education. During a drawing held at the AAA Convention, Tammy Ellis of Hamilton, AL and Michael Pengelly of Center Valley, PA were selected as scholarship winners.

"The time for obtaining an AuD degree via distance education is running out," stated AFA Chair Ken Lowder, AuD. "These scholarships were offered as part of the AFA's ongoing efforts to encourage practitioners to enroll in distance education AuD programs."
