Lafayette, IN - The Audiology Foundation of America (AFA) raised over $35,000 at the recent Academy of Dispensing Audiologists (ADA) convention in Savannah, GA, through combined efforts in both an art auction and golf tournament.

The AFA Art Auction featured a beaver coat, donated by Dr. Deborah Price, AFA Director and this year's auctioneer, as well as various paintings, prints, items of jewelry, sculptures and wooden carvings. In total, the art auction garnered a net income of over $17,000. Additionally, the annual AFA Golf Tournament was held at the Club at Savannah Harbor. Over 80 golfers competed in the event, raising an additional $18,000 for use in the Au.D. transition.

Eleven sponsors, including Advance for Audiologists, Bernafon, ESCO, GN Resound, Hearing Doctors of Kansas, OMNI, Oticon, Qualitone, Siemens, Starkey and Widex, provided assistance at the golf tournament through hole sponsorships, lunch and beverage carts, and the 19th hole party. In addition, HearingAid, a band that includes Brad Ingrao, Au.D., of HIMSA, Ralph Campagna, of United Hearing Systems, and Henrik Nielsen, of Unitron, donated their equipment and expenses to provide entertainment at the art auction.

"Through their sponsorships, these companies and individuals showed their support for practitioners' efforts to improve educational opportunities and patient care," said Price. "Our golf outing and art auction were tremendously successful thanks, in part, to their generosity. The funds generated at these events will help the AFA continue in its mission to transform audiology into a doctoring profession, and also assist with efforts in terms of state licensure issues."
