Lafayette, IN -One hundred and fifty Au.D. students, representing 47 Au.D. programs across the country, participated in the Audiology Foundation of America's (AFA) 3rd annual "Clued into Audiology" otoscope program, which tested the students' knowledge of the history of their profession.
Students were asked to read articles about the history of the Au.D. degree and audiology's transition to a doctoring profession. They were then required to pass a quiz on the material before being awarded an otoscope. The program was open to all third-year Au.D. students in four-year Au.D. programs.
Fifty-nine students received their otoscopes from AFA Chair Deborah Price, Au.D., during a special presentation at the 2008 NAFDA Convention in Charlotte, NC. All other students received their otoscopes individually, either at the AFA booth during the convention or via their respective Au.D. programs.
Funding for the "Clued into Audiology" otoscope program was provided by the Widex Hearing Aid Company, in conjunction with the Hal-Hen Company, which supplied over $19,000 in otoscopes in support of the AFA and Au.D. education.
The AFA is a non-profit foundation whose mission is to empower audiologists to be independent and autonomous practitioners by supporting their educational preparation, professional practice and leadership development.
