AFA Looks to the Future and Steps into New Offices

Share:

Lafayette, IN - After a decade in the same location, the AFA has moved across to a new office. The additional space will be efficiently used to house staff and store records of the AuD transition and audiology profession. The new office is in an 1865 era building on the National Historic Register that has been refurbished for modern offices.

The new address is 8 North 3rd Street, Suite 406, Lafayette, IN 47901. The telephone number remains the same at 765-743-6AUD and Fax at 765-743-9AUD.

"After more than eight years with the AFA, I have seen an incredible change in the audiology profession," states Susan Paarlberg, Executive Director. "In 1994, there were no AuDs at all and there were only two programs that had just begun educating a trickle of students." The AFA had been educating the profession about the need for a unifying doctorate since its beginning in 1989. In 1999 and 2000, when several distance education AuD programs opened, there were still less than a hundred AuD graduates. Now there are more than 1200 graduates, both existing practitioners and young career entrants. There are currently over two dozen AuD programs.

Audiologists should take pride in their vision and support for an improved future as they continue to support the transition. American consumers will be better able to find quality care as Doctors of Audiology become the norm over the next decade.

"It is wonderful to see the continued support of the Audiology Foundation of America's work to promote the AuD transition from the profession, audiology organizations and hearing care industry," according to Deborah Price, AuD, Vice Chair. Our national office's move to better facilities will permit us to provide even greater support to the profession as we continue on our transition."
