AFA Chair Ken Lowder presents UFL AuD student Malika Charlton with an otoscope at the professional luncheon ceremony.
West Lafayette, IN - Students from the University of Florida's AuD program were honored by the Audiology Foundation of America during a luncheon ceremony held on Friday, March 1, 2002. Ken Lowder, AuD, AFA Chair, presented each third year AuD student with an otoscope. AFA Vice Chair, Leslie Neal, PhD, discussed professional roles and responsibilities during a presentation entitled, "On Becoming a Doctor". Students and faculty also received new professional symbol pins.
The ceremony is another example of the AFA's efforts to support AuD students and foster the education and training of audiologists. According to AFA Executive Director, Susan Paarlberg, "Third year AuD students are ready to begin their clinical rotations and the AFA wanted to present them with a gift that they could use now, as well as after graduation. The ceremony was also an opportunity to recognize students for their future contributions to hearing and balance care, and the profession of audiology. The AFA hopes to recognize other AuD students at similar ceremonies in the future."
