Lafayette, IN - The Audiology Foundation of America (AFA) is proud to announce the winners of its Outstanding 2nd-Year Au.D. Student Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year. Second-year Au.D. students Emily M. Leister, from the Northeast Ohio Au.D. Consortium (NOAC), and Kristen Kruse, from the University of Texas at Dallas, have each been awarded a $4,500 scholarship. They were chosen from a group of nominees from four-year Au.D. programs throughout the country.
In her recommendation letter, Sharon Lesner, Ph.D., NOAC Coordinator, said Leister is "motivated, energetic, extremely bright, engaged, confident, outgoing, and focused. Her future holds much promise in terms of significant contributions to the profession of audiology and to individuals with hearing impairments."
Dr. Linda M. Thibodeau, Au.D. Program Head at the University of Texas at Dallas, shared similar remarks about Kruse. "I have never known a student with her experience, skills, and dedication who continues to seek excellence with an eager disposition to accept challenge. I believe she will be not only an excellent dedicated professional but also an ambassador for audiology in the world."
The Outstanding Au.D. Student Scholarships were established to recognize and support the "best and brightest" Au.D. students. The scholarships are funded by a grant from the Oticon Foundation, also known as the William Demant and Wife Ida Emilie Foundation, and scholarship winners will be honored by the AFA at events held at their universities.
The AFA is an educational foundation whose mission is to empower audiologists to be independent and autonomous practitioners by supporting their educational preparation, professional practice and leadership development.
