AFA Funds New Scholarships for Practitioners

West Lafayette, IN - The Audiology Foundation of America has established the Audiology Professional Organization Practitioner Scholarship Award to encourage new applications to distance learning AuD programs. Recipients of the award will be selected by their audiology professional organization.
In 1995 the AFA hosted a conference on AuD standards and equivalency at which the course for rigorous educational standards in AuD programs and the establishment of access to these programs was mapped out. Considerable progress has been made since that landmark meeting. There are over 20 AuD programs and more in the approval process. Over 1000 practicing audiologists will have earned an AuD degree by the end of 2002 and over 1000 more are enrolled in AuD programs.
According to AFA Chair Ken Lowder, AuD, "The AFA wants to honor the organizations that helped in this spectacular achievement, and expand its support for practitioners pursuing the AuD degree via a distance learning program." Participating audiology professional organizations include: Academy of Dispensing Audiologists, Academy of Rehabilitative Audiology, Air Force Audiology Association, American Academy of Audiology, Audiological Resources Association, Educational Audiology Association and Military Audiology Association.
Scholarships will be awarded in early 2003. For more information about the scholarships contact your audiology professional organization or visit the AFA's website at www.audfound.org/description.doc.
