Lafayette, IN - Veronica H. Heide Au.D., a board member of the Audiology Foundation of America (AFA), received the Honors of the Wisconsin Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Professional Association (WSHA-P) on February 8, 2008. Dr. Heide received the award in recognition of her "excellence in the areas of education, clinical service, and research in audiology".

The award letter further stated: "You have contributed to the clinical and academic education of innumerable students in the Madison area. Your leadership and commitment to continuing education for audiologists have been recognized throughout the state. You have inspired and served as a model for audiologists and have contributed to innovative programs benefiting those with hearing impairment as well as preventing hearing impairment."

The award is presented annually to an individual in the state of Wisconsin who has excelled in the profession.

"I fell in love with audiology because it combines my love of science and technology with working with people," said Heide. "This award means so much to me because it recognizes the three areas of audiology that I have loved being a part of in my career: my work with patients, my work as a research audiologist with Nicolet Instrument Corporation and my work with students. All three areas have given me unique perspectives that have made me a better audiologist. I would encourage every Au.D. to keep asking questions about why you perform the procedures that you do every day, to try to see the world from your patients' eyes, and most importantly to keep listening to your patients because they will tell you what they want and need if you keep your heart and ears open."
