The Audiology Foundation of America (AFA) is proud to announce the winner of its annual Outstanding Au.D. Student Scholarship for the 2009-20010 academic year. Second-year Au.D. student Jay Vachhani, from Rush University, has been awarded a $4,500 scholarship. He was chosen from a group of nominees from four-year Au.D. programs throughout the country.
In her recommendation letter, Rush University Program Director Patricia McCarthy, Ph.D., said Vachhani is "exactly the type of person that we have been trying to recruit to the profession of audiology. His unique background combined with his innate intelligence, lofty personal goals, respectful interpersonal skills and sense of commitment to the profession are assets that will contribute to his success as an audiologist. I am quite confident that Jay will make many important contributions to his future patients and practice, as well as to the profession of audiology."
The Outstanding Au.D. Student Scholarship was established to recognize and support the "best and brightest" of Au.D. students. The scholarship is funded through annual contributions to the AFA from audiology practitioners. Vachhani will be honored by the AFA at an event held at his university later this summer.
The AFA is an educational foundation whose mission is to empower audiologists to be independent and autonomous practitioners by supporting their educational preparation, professional practice and leadership development.
