West Lafayette, IN--Twenty students who are enrolled in the nation's Au.D. (Doctor of Audiology) programs recently recieved Alliance Fund Fellowships from the Audiology Foundation of America. These scholars are enrolled at Central Michigan University, Baylor College of Medicine in Texas, Ball State University in Indiana, The University of Florida, Gallaudet University, and the University of Louisville.
Contributions from hearing industry corporations started the Alliance Fund to promote the Au.D. as the best education for a beginning audiologist. Each student will receive $2,500 annually for up to four years. In addition, corporate sponsors invite their fellows to tour plant facilities and participate in other special activities.
The Audiology Foundation of America administers the Alliance Fund to support its mission to transform audiology into a doctoral profession with the Au.D. as its distinctive designator. The AFA also promotes programs and procedures by which existing practitioners may earn the new Au.D. credential, allowing experienced audiologists to demonstrate equivalency with a modern, doctoral standard of care. The use of Au.D. degrees and credentials will unify the profession and help consumers identify professional hearing care.
