Lafayette, IN -Five final 2006 School-Based Practitioner Scholarships have been awarded by the Audiology Foundation of America (AFA), bringing the total to 14 for this calendar year. Each recipient won $1,000 in support of distance Au.D. education.
Additionally, at a recent board meeting, AFA Directors voted to provide $20,000 in AFA-sponsored practitioner scholarships in 2007, with five specifically targeted to school-based audiologists. Further information on these various scholarships will be available on the AFA website throughout 2007.
"Recent donations to the AFA have made it possible for us to offer even more financial assistance to audiologists in pursuing their Au.D.," said AFA Executive Director Susan Paarlberg. "School-based audiologists play a key role in working with hearing-impaired children, and we value the opportunity to help upgrade the education of these dedicated practitioners."
The five final scholarship winners include:
Roxanne Aaron, who has been an audiologist for over 20 years, and is currently employed as a pediatric audiologist at The Moog Center for Deaf Education in St. Louis, MO. She is pursuing her Au.D. from the University of Florida.
Kristin Moore, who has been an audiologist since 1998, and is currently employed by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in Charlotte, NC. She is pursuing her Au.D. from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, School of Audiology (PCO).
Mary Jo Burtka, has been an audiologist since 1985 and has been
employed by Redford Union Schools in Redford, MI, since 1998.
She is pursuing her Au.D. from the University of Florida.
Melanie Rosen, who has been an audiologist since 1998, and currently
works as an educational audiologist in local school districts in
New York. She is pursuing her Au.D. from the Arizona School
of Health Sciences.
Mary Kaye Levandowski has been an educational
audiologist since 1987 at the Redford Union Oral Program
for Children with Hearing Impairments in Redford, MI. She
is pursuing her Au.D. from PCO.
