West Lafayette, IN - Two new directors, Veronica Heide, AuD and Deborah Price, AuD have been elected to serve on the Audiology Foundation of America's (AFA) Board of Directors. Directors make a major commitment to the profession by volunteering their time and efforts as well as expenses to attend meetings.
Veronica Heide of Madison, WI has owned and managed her private practice, Audible Difference since 1991. Prior to that she was a research audiologist with Nicolet Instrument Corporation and also provided customer support and training for the Audiodiagnostic and Biomedical divisions of Nicolet.
Dr. Heide received her AuD degree from PCO School of Audiology in May 2001. She has written book chapters and papers on digital amplification and real ear measurements. In addition, she has written many consumer articles for local magazines and newspapers, including a monthly column, "Hear Say".
When asked to serve Dr. Heide replied, "I am thrilled to be an AFA director and to serve in any capacity that will move the profession of audiology forward. My goal as a director is to recruit talented young scientists in the field. I hope to challenge every audiologist to talk at high school science or career days and to make sure that career counselors have information about the profession as they advise young college students about the opportunities available to them."
One of the first hearing professionals to earn the Doctor of Audiology degree, from the Arizona School of Health Sciences, Deborah Price is consistently at the forefront of her field. She founded the Hearing Professional Center, the first freestanding hearing diagnostic center in Dallas, in 1983 to serve the diagnostic and rehabilitative needs of the hearing impaired.
She is nationally recognized as an expert at fitting and dispensing hearing aids and consistently uses the most advanced hearing technology. Dr. Price travels nationwide to train other professionals in the latest technologies and procedures. In addition, she is an experienced speaker and published author.
When asked to serve as a director, Dr. Price enthusiastically agreed because she believes that the AFA has set the standard for the profession. "The AFA epitomizes the future of audiology. The work of the Foundation is a legacy to leave to the profession and it is an honor and a privilege to serve on its board of directors."
