On February 14 at 7 pm (CST), ABC television will air a follow-up to a story that originated last fall on its popular Extreme Makeover: Home Edition program. The follow-up program is called Extreme Makeover: Family Reunion, which tells how members of the Vardon family received the gift of hearing from Starkey Hearing Foundation founder William F. Austin along with their newly remodeled home.
In November, viewers saw the Vardon's Oak Park, Michigan home remodeled and made safe and communication-friendly for Larry and Julie, deaf parents of a blind and autistic son, Lance. That episode featured Austin and Academy Award-winning actress Marlee Matlin welcoming the Vardon family home and presenting the Vardon's other son, Stefan, with a $50,000 college scholarship check.
The Family Reunion episode has the Vardon family flying to Starkey's Minneapolis headquarters in a private jet sponsored by Rayovac. Judy and Larry both discover that they have residual hearing and are fit with powerful hearing instruments provided by the Foundation.
